Lectrosonics has announced a set of firmware updates that enable users outside the United States to record and transmit simultaneously in certain transmitter models. From August 26 forward, all units of DBSM, DBSMD, DPR-A, SMWB, and SMDWB for non-U.S. markets will come with the new firmware.

Users outside the US or Canada who already own these models with /X, /E01, /E06, and /E09 market identifiers, as well as the DPR/E01, can download updated firmware for installation in the field. Precise instructions for performing the upgrade can be found on the Lectrosonics website at http://www.lectrosonics.com/rectx.

Users outside the US or Canada desiring the update and with transmitter model numbers not including E01, E06, or X should email [email protected] or call 505 892-4501 or 800-821-1121 for more details.
Users with existing units in Canada desiring the update will be required to send their units to the Lectrosonics Canada office in Toronto.
Unfortunately, US users with these transmitter models are not eligible for the feature upgrade at this time due to Zaxcom’s patent for recording while transmitting with a bodypack transmitter.
“Our customers worldwide have long asked for the ability to transmit and record simultaneously. We’re pleased to now offer that feature for our international customers.”
Karl Winkler, Lectrosonics’ EVP of product design and distribution
I’m actually surprised it took this long for Lectrosonics to add the feature for non-US customers, as there are no patent issues.
