Tamron has announced the 18-300mm f/3.5-6.3 Di III-A2 VC VXD all-in-one zoom for Nikon Z and Canon RF mount cameras. This APS-C zoom is not a new lens, and it has been around since 2021 in Sony E and Fujifilm X mounts.
Key features
- APS-C | f/3.5-6.3 to f/22-40
- 29-480mm (Full-Frame Equivalent)
- All-in-One, Wide-to-Tele Zoom
- VXD Linear AF Motor
- Maximum Magnification: 1:2
- VC Image Stabilization
- Weather-Sealed Construction
The Canon RF mount version is slightly shorter and lighter (4.9″ and 22 oz) than the Nikon Z mount version (5″ and 22.4 oz). The Canon RF version also features an AF/MF Switch and a VC (Vibration Compensation) ON/OFF Switch. Tamron’s Lens Utility software will provide support to both lenses for any firmware upgrades.
The lenses utilize a linear motor focus mechanism, VXD (Voice-coil eXtreme-torque Drive) for what is claimed to be quiet and fast autofocus, as well as Tamron’s proprietary VC (Vibration Compensation) mechanism.
The optical design includes special lens elements that are said to maximize edge-to-edge performance. The optical construction includes several special lens elements, specifically four LD (Low Dispersion) and three hybrid aspherical lens elements. These elements help to produce clear, sharp images from the center to the corners. Chromatic aberration and other optical aberrations are well corrected. In addition, the BBAR-G2 (Broad-Band Anti-Reflection Generation 2) Coating suppresses ghosting and flare, which commonly occur in backlit scenes.

The lens has a close-focus capability of 5.9″, which gives the lens a 1:2 reproduction ratio on the wide end, and a 1:4 reproduction ratio on the tele side.

The 18-300mm F3.5-6.3 VC for Canon RF mount is equipped with an AF/MF switch and a VC ON/OFF switch. You can adjust the AF/MF switch for close-up photography of flowers or table photos. Also, you can switch VC ON/OFF for handheld or tripod shooting. It allows flexible settings according to the shooting situation and achieves even greater convenience and comfortable operability.
Nearly all TAMRON mirrorless lenses have a 67mm filter size. This allows you to use the same filter among a wide range of lenses.
The lenses also feature a moisture-resistant construction and fluorine coatings to repel oil and water.
