- Special: The special categories are announced each year. This category gives you the chance to be as creative as you wish. Generally the image should be self-explanatory once the category is announced.

- NOVICE: A novice is an entrant who has not yet achieved an average of nineteen points or more on five entries in a particular DIVISION.

- Once submitted, an image may never again be submitted in a monthly competition. The image is, however, eligible for submission in that year’s salon.

IDENTIFICATION of SUMBISSIONS
- The job of the submissions committee is probably the most time consuming of all of the positions on the executive. In order to make their task run more smoothly it is requested that the identification of all submissions follow the attached format exactly.
- At the discretion of the SUBMISSIONS CHAIRPERSON, slides are subject to viewing as they are thumb spotted.
- Prints are subject to viewing as the direction of printing on their back indicates.
NOTE: Care should be taken that labels, affixed to slides for identification purposes, do not interfere with the projector mechanism.
The following information is required on both prints and slides:
- Makers name
- Title of image Please make an effort to title your work, it makes identification easier at a later date.
- Category
- Novice or Experienced: The letter B will designate the NOVICE group. If you leave this out you will be judged EXPERIENCED forever more.
- Month and Year of submission
MONTHLY COMPETITION AWARDS
- Points are awarded for the monthly submissions based on the “Melbourne System”. The competition will be presided over by a panel of three judges. Each judge is allowed to award up to ten points per submission. Judges shall be drawn from a pool outside the Scarborough Camera Club when possible.
- Judges Comments: Because of their importance in aiding the photographer to improve their work the judges will be asked to comment on how the submission could be improved. These comments will be recorded as well as possible and read back at the returns of submission meeting.
AWARDS SYSTEM POINTS & AWARD
- EXPERIENCED
- 20-21 or any judge giving 8 or more HM
- 22-25 or any two judges giving 8 or more SILVER
- 26-30 or all three judges giving 8 or more GOLD

- 19-21 or any judge giving 8 or more HM
- 22-25 or any two judges giving 8 or more SILVER
- 26-30 or all three judges giving 8 or more GOLD
“The intent of the Melbourne System is to stop one judge from destroying the score (for example 8+8+3=19) and also to reflect that maybe one judge saw some merit in what otherwise would have been a low scoring entry (for example 4+4+8=16).”
RETURN OF SUBMISSIONS
- After judging, all slides and prints submitted for evaluation will be viewed at the next returns meeting where the judges’ comments and the scores will be announced. The member’s name will only be announced if an award has been given.
