RED V-RAPTOR XE– $14,995 USD

RED has announced the new V-RAPTOR XE digital cinema camera. This newest addition to the Z CINEMA camera lineup is a streamlined version of the V-RAPTOR [X]. The camera is available in Nikon Z or Canon RF mount.

RED states that the V-RAPTOR XE was designed for independent creators looking for a large-format digital cinema camera at a more accessible price point. The new camera retains RED’s 8K large format (VV) global shutter sensor found in the V-RAPTOR [X] series.

Built on RED’s DSMC3 platform, the XE provides a large-format VV sensor in a lightweight 1.81kg / 4 lb body. It can capture 8K video at up to 60 fps with a claimed 17+ stops of dynamic range. To balance high-end performance with value, the XE omits advanced Global Vision features like Phantom Track and Extended Highlights, but retains the same image quality, workflow flexibility, and connectivity as the rest of RED’s V-RAPTOR line.

Users can take adavantage of autofocus with face detection, simultaneous ProRes proxy recording, and dual 12G-SDI outputs.

The 35.4MP large-format VV sensor features a global shutter, eliminating the artifacts produced by rolling shutters in scenes with rapid motion or flashing lights. With a claimed scan time of just 8 ms, the XE provides distortion-free motion capture while maintaining full detail, contrast, and dynamic range across every frame. The XE provides a multitude of resolution and frame-rate options, capturing 17:9 footage up to 8192 x 4320 when utilizing its entire VV sensor.

Powered by in-camera processing, on-sensor phase detection, and advanced face detection, the V-RAPTOR XE provides all levels of filmmakers with automatic focus control in a wide range of environments.

The camera features a single CFexpress Type B card slot, and the XE records internally with data rates topping out at 800 MB/s. With support for REDCODE Raw HQ recording, the XE ensures post-production flexibility for color grading, cropping, and visual effects. Simultaneous proxy recording and alternative format options ensure smooth integration with existing workflows.

Built into the right side of the camera, the control interface features a 2.4″ LCD screen with navigable menus, providing an AC or camera operator with control over in-camera format selection and other important functions. A USB-C port outputs data at up to 250 MB/s.

Supporting both wired and wireless IP connectivity, the XE allows cloud-based collaboration and app-based remote camera control. When used with RED’s Z to PL Adapter with electronic ND filters, the XE allows ND strength to be continuously adjusted over Wi-Fi in fine increments of 1/100 of a stop.
