If you need fast transfer speeds, then the new Angelbird Performance Card Reader is a good option. It delivers reliable transfer speeds of up to 40 Gb/s. That’s fast, and if you’d like, you can get real-time editing directly from your storage media.
The Performance Card Reader includes a 13″ ultra-flexible, full-featured Solid Flex™ cable, engineered for both reliability and versatility, making it a staple in any creative kit. I like these new cables as they are very flexible and easy to work with on your desk. Those stiff cables can be a bit difficult. They’re also available separately in four length options, three connector types, and two colors.
As I mentioned, the reader is fast enough to edit off of; however, I don’t recommend doing so, as your OS will write data to the card. It would have been nice to have a read-only switch on the Performance Reader to avoid any issues, such as accidentally deleting or modifying the original clips on the CFexpress Type B card. It’s best to transfer the media first, then edit from the card.
You can also update the firmware on your Angelbird CFexpress Type B cards with the new Performance Reader. An Angelbird reader is required for firmware updates.
USB-C 4.0 Gen 3×2
USB-C 4.0 Gen 3×2 has a maximum speed of 40Gbps, which is considered very fast. It offers significantly improved data transfer rates compared to older USB standards and is comparable to Thunderbolt 3. This makes it ideal for demanding tasks like transferring large files, high-resolution video streaming, and connecting external displays.

Secure Connection
Like all Angelbird drives and readers, they have a solid connection with a recessed cable port. The cable fits nice and snug and protects the connector as well. Only downside is the port is designed for Angelbird USB-C cables, as most will be too big or too small.

Solid Cool™ technology
To prevent the reader from overheating, Angelbird utilizes Solid Cool technology. The reader maintains peak performance through active cooling, preventing overheating and thermal throttling. There is a tiny silent fan on the bottom of the reader.
